Blade of Agony is a first-person shooter set during World War II, which takes inspiration from some of the biggest titles of the genre, such as Wolfenstein 3D, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. The game uses the GZDoom engine although, unlike other similar projects, it is standalone. This means you won't need anything more than the game itself in order to play.
Unzip and play
To play Blade of Agony, all you need to do is unzip the compressed file in a folder and double-click on the executable (Blade of Agony - Launcher.exe). And that's it. There is no need to use GZDoom separately, nor add assets from other games, or anything like that. Just unzip and play. It is worth taking a good look at the graphics options before starting a new game, as the game offers a great deal of flexibility and you can customize your experience by adding lots of modern visual effects (such as post-processing layers).
Three chapters and thirty game levels
Blade of Agony is an FPS with a strong narrative component and well-crafted story, in which you can talk to other characters and make decisions. One of the first decisions to make, in fact, is choosing which chapter you want to play. They should ideally be played in order, as they all form part of the same story, but there is nothing preventing you from starting with the third chapter of the story if you want to. Each chapter has about ten levels. The game even features several secret maps.
Superb AI enemies
One of the most striking aspects of Blade of Agony is your enemies' artificial intelligence. Soldiers can roll on the ground to dodge your shots, flee to an area where they have reinforcements, or hide behind cover. Enemies even consistently react to elements such as visibility and sound. This way, you can hide from enemies if you stay in the shadows and avoid making any noise. For example, you can take out many enemies by crouching down and approaching from behind without making a sound.
A brutal action-packed FPS
Although at a conceptual level Blade of Agony takes inspiration mainly from Wolfenstein 3D and Medal of Honor, the truth is that the gameplay is much more reminiscent of Doom or other FPS games with a much more frenetic style of play. Stealth can help you in some levels, especially during the early stages, but usually the game pushes you to act fast, move at full speed and attack enemies with everything you have at your disposal.
Outstanding boomer shooter
Download Blade of Agony if you are looking for a good boomer shooter for PC. This game is the fruit of the hard work that a team of fans has invested over the years. And it shows. It displays impeccable quality, brimming with love and attention to detail. A real treat for FPS fans.
